A help desk is found throughout the internet on websites that require your input. Web merchants have them. Websites with message boards often have them. Their main point is to allow you the opportunity gather the information you need to finish your task. Let's say that you are in need of a password for a website. If there is an icon labeled help desk, you can click on it. You may have to do a search for the topic you need. You may have to browse through a list of frequently asked questions. But, often it will take you to a web page that you can send an email to the actual help desk. That desk?is a contact that can answer your question for you. While it is not an immediate response, it can be responded to within a day or so. Some websites offer help desks that move much quicker, others slower. |

According to the Shelton, Connecticut-based market research firm, only 8 percent of public schools have a majority of staff members with advanced technology skills. |

Offshore outsourcing, practically a staple for multinationals, is popping up more frequently in the business plans of startup companies. After all, a key factor in a product's potential success--or a shareholder's quick ROI--is how soon the product gets to market. And although a founding CEO is willing to toil 16 hours a day to get that baby off the ground, not every employee will follow suit in this era where work-life balance looms large. Outsourcing abroad appeals to startups and their financiers because it creates a near-24-hour workday--without the overtime.

Windows XP's Remote Desktop tool lets you remotely administer other Windows XP machines, as well as Windows 2000 and 2003 servers. On the client machine, select Start | All Programs | Accessories | Communications | Remote Desktop Connection, and enter the IP address of the computer you intend to connect to. If the connection is permitted, you'll get a window onto the server machine and be able to control it just as if you were sitting in front of its keyboard, monitor, and mouse. Conversely, you can set your Windows XP machine to accept connections from remote systems. Right-click on My Computer, select Properties, select the Remote tab, and mark the check box under Remote Desktop, then click on Select Remote Users to specify who can access your machine. |
