In addition to ‘My Documents’, the ‘H drive’ also stores your Eudora e-mail, Netscape profile (including bookmarks), IE favorites, and Outlook personal folder. This enables your data to “follow” you from computer to computer without having to redo them every time you log onto a different one. You can check your e-mail or browse the web from any computer on the CSUSM domain just by logging onto it with your own username and password. |
By default your documents should be saved to ‘h:\My Documents’. You should create a shortcut to this folder and place it on your desktop. All important documents should be placed here as this folder has the benefit of nightly automatic backups. In the case of a disk crash or system corruption, your documents remain safe on ‘CSUSMNT’. Remember to only place your most important documents here, as your space on the ‘H drive’ is limited to 100 megabytes. Less important documents can be backed up to Zip drive while keeping working copies on your local computer.

Make a folder on your c drive called ‘Documents’ and place a shortcut to it on your desktop. Thus you will keep critical documents in ‘My Documents’ (on the remote h drive) and non-critical ones in ‘Documents’ (on the local c drive).

In addition to individual home directories, CSUSMNT also houses a separate folder for each department on campus. When your CSUSM account was created you were given access to your department’s folder. You should map a drive letter on your computer to this folder and/or make a shortcut to it on the desktop. Documents that need to be accessed by more than one person in your department should be placed here. Unique permissions can be assigned to folders inside the departmental folder depending on what kind of access you want to give to whom. |

Go to your Start menu and choose “Run”. At the “Open” prompt type “\\prnsrv” and press Enter. A window will open displaying all the printers on the CSUSM print server. Choose one and double-click on it. You will be asked if you want to set up the printer; answer “Yes”. When you see the printer window pop up, you will know you have successfully installed the printer. If you have more than one printer and you want to make the newly added one the default printer, go to the Properties menu and choose “Set as Default Printer”. To remove a printer, go to Start -> Settings -> Printers and delete the icon of the unwanted printer.
